Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women


Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in women like breast cancer.  This year, on World Cancer Day, the main theme is cancer in women.  Any woman is at risk for cancer.  The risk of cancer increases with age.  Health experts say awareness of cervical cancer can help prevent and detect cancer earlier.

 In 2018, 97,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer in India.

India accounts for 20% of the world's cervical cancer cases. Every year, 60,000 women die from the disease.

 The cervix is ​​the narrowest part of the uterus. There are many types of cells in this area. About 85% of cervical cancers are diagnosed here. The main cause is an infection caused by the human papilloma virus. Factors such as poor sexual hygiene, early sexual intercourse, smoking, continuous childbirth, having sex with more people, and HIV infection increase the risk of cervical cancer.
